Wanda Taylor, Professional Guide & Instructor

Wanda Taylor has been a professional guide and fly casting instructor since the 80's. She’s been a feature angler or host in magazines, on radio, television, video, computer fly fishing games and podcast from coast to coast. Her passion is teaching independent fly casting/fishing to women and girls, as well as, pursuing fins with a fly around the world.

Wanda is an Advisory staff member of 20 years with TFO Rods. She is a pro staff member of Patagonia, Chota Outdoor Gear, MavenFly, Native Eyewear and Aqua Design.

Wanda is currently teaching private casting instruction and instructional guiding on the Hiwassee River, near Reliance, TN. She is an outdoor writer for Dun Magazine and Girls, Guns & Rods. Wanda was the Women’s Casting Instructor of the 16th annual Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival, as well as the MC for their Women’s Forum. She is a board member and retreat leader for  www.castingcarolinas.com.

Awards & Achievements

  • Wanda is known as "The South's 1st Lady of Fly Fishing"
  • She's the 1st woman inducted into the Southern Appalachian Fly Fishing Museum Hall of Fame
  • She  is the 1st woman certified by the International Federation of Fly  Fishers as a Master Certified Casting Instructor in the world.
  • She is the 1st woman Orvis Endorsed Guide in the Southeastern United States.
  • She was awarded the Southeastern FFF 2005 Woman of the year award.
  • The  recipient of the 2008 FFF SE Council Award of Excellence for her work  with breast cancer survivors with Casting For Recovery, Georgia’s  Casting For Confidence and her teaching and testing activities for the  FFF Certified Casting Instructors program.


Fly Skill Accomplishments

Wanda has caught incredible trout from her home waters on the Hiwassee  River in TN to the West in Idaho, Montana and Colorado. 

19 Sailfish on 20lb tippet in 2 days in Guatemala, 5 to 10 pound bonefish in many of the Bahamas Islands, Tarpon on the Coast of South Carolina, Kings and Stripers on the Coast of California, King Salmon in Alaska, as well as, large Dorado in Mexico.
